Re: Stuart Slater's house
Sad waste of a talent Slater. Think he has since admitted leaving was a mistake. Some very good young players haven't hit the heights over the years due to one reason or another. Slater, Dickens, Williamson and Collison.

I seem to remember Tony Cottee received a warm welcome when he came as an Everton substitute!!!!

The guy behind me got so worked up he was salivating as he passed on feeling to the hapless Cottee.

it must have been particularly unpleasant for TC

Eastside, I was thinking about random encounters with ec players and one that stands out was meeting fellow Mile Endonian and West Ham fan Muzzy Izzit in a karaoke bar in Liverpool after we won up there. Surprisingly he hadn't seen the game.

Re: Stuart Slater's house
I remember the crowd spilling out onto Green street and people jumping on top of cars singing. Every generation of West Ham fan has a euphoric memory like that early on in their life which they spend the rest of their football going life hoping to be recreated. Every subsequent game you inevitably leave unsatisfied but keep going thinking the next game will be the one. Like a heroin addiction.

Seem to remember a QPR away game when news filtered through that we had just extended his contract... everyone on a right happy vibe... and then 8 months later we got relegated... !!

Unplayable that night... remember I had dislocated my thumb playing football on the Sunday... in the NB that night... amount of times I banged it or applauded and then realised ... ouch... anyway was worth the pain... great night... don't think we ever saw those heights again from Slater...

I remember it well: the best part was seeing Martin Keown being given the run-around.

I was in the south bank that night, electric atmosphere, probably the last great cup tie before the terracing went. A shame he went north to join celtic and his career went south.

Yes remember that. Had a photo in the paper with it. Was my fav player - and gutted when he went to Celtic. Think he was gutted too.
